Our latest episode of Getting Real with Rob is with Mr. James Scruggs, CEO and President of Kingdom Development Partners. KDP is a thriving development group whose heart centered business model is getting attention in the Charlotte region. He shared with us his goal to ensure that creating affordable housing options is looked after with the same care as a market-rate community. And the execution of it interwoven with his faith. He tells us about his passionate mission to, “…transform lives through real estate, as we believe a person’s home is their foundation. We want to provide economic development and self-sufficiency for individuals and families in the greater Charlotte area and beyond.”
A native of Long Island, NY but a Charlottean at heart, James has over two decades in real estate development, construction, and brokerage after leaving a successful career as a Bond trader. After years in finance with Bank of America, he joined Helen Adams Realty. Since relocating to Charlotte, James has been making a name for himself in real estate development with a particular focus on the most up-and-coming neighborhoods in The Queen City.
This episode is full of laughter and heart. Honesty and stories of commitment. Originally dreaming of a career as a pediatrician, life took him in many different directions. He tells us about a book that changed his life, one that propelled him to a career in real estate after receiving his B.A. From the University of Virginia. He also holds a Master of Science in Real Estate from UNC Charlotte, where he was the recipient of the distinguished Childress Klein fellowship.
